Gundlach Automotive Solutions in Gothenburg, Sweden, is the most advanced production facility for complete wheels in the Nordic region and a prime example of what the future of manufacturing can look like. Quality, efficiency, reliability, and sustainability go hand in hand with a vision of zero-defect production.
Why Radioshuttle™?
When operating a factory that maintains a good pace and a consistently high-quality level, a reliable automation is vital in all processes. That’s why Gundlach chose to implement the Radioshuttle™ system.
Radioshuttle™ plays a central role in the operation by managing the speed of the system and optimising space. It has also maximised storage capacity and enabled a layout with wider aisles, allowing for multiple parallel workflows. In total, there are 22 Radioshuttles™, slightly fewer than the number of employees at Gundlach.
Maintaining an efficient production line that consistently delivers the highest quality products requires advanced and reliable automation.
“In one year, at full capacity, our deliveries can cover more than half of all new car registrations in Sweden. Achieving this with a traditional, non-automated setup would require a significantly larger space and between 100 and 150 employees. Today, there are only 24 employees at the factory,” says David Ackeby, Plant General Manager at Gundlach Automotive Solutions Sweden AB.
The facility receives tyres and rims, which are handed over to the automation system. The system transports them to storage, where they are processed and handled as needed. The production line is responsible for mounting the tyres and rims, inflating them to the correct pressure, and performing balancing. Each finished pallet leaving the production line contains a complete set of wheels for a car.
Zero defects
The automation of repetitive tasks ensures that every person involved in the production process adds value. The company aims for zero defects in terms of quality.
Gundlach demonstrates how technology can enhance the working environment. By automating repetitive tasks, staff can focus on skilled and creative work, increasing both job satisfaction and the quality of output. This integration of automation and human labour represents the future of production, where efficiency, quality, and a stimulating workplace go hand in hand. Gundlach Automotive Solutions Sweden serves as a model for how industries can evolve to meet future challenges.
